From Need to Implementation: Custom Solutions for Microscopy and Research

In microscopy and life science research, we regularly face challenges that require individual approaches and truly innovative solutions. Vivanto Solutions is not only a manufacturer of accessories for Leica, Nikon, Zeiss, Olympus and other microscope brands – we develop and manufacture our own products that are directly based on specific market and customer requirements. Above all, we act as a partner for all those who are looking for truly individualised solutions to their research needs.

Our work begins with a thorough analysis of the user’s specific problem and continues with the development of a tailor-made technical solution – whether it be design modifications, software integration or new possibilities in experimental practice. Our primary focus is on supporting scientists, research teams and individuals from both the academic and commercial sectors who, in their work, encounter the limitations of commercially available products and seek more efficient ways to achieve their goals.

Our main mission is to simplify your scientific work, streamline your experimental procedures and help you successfully take your projects to the finish line.

To illustrate our approach to solving specific technical challenges, here are two selected examples of projects we have completed in collaboration with research teams.

System for observing plant roots using confocal microscopy

Observation of plant root growth and morphology is crucial for understanding plant physiology, but in laboratory practice it often encounters many complications, especially when using confocal microscopy. Typical problems are uneven root growth, unwanted curling or deformation due to unsuitable attachment, but also the need to ensure a continuous supply of nutrients during the experiment. These factors can significantly affect the quality and reliability of the results.

The developed mounting system effectively eliminates these obstacles: it enables easy and rapid mounting of root samples directly for confocal microscopy, while improving growth conditions through the possibility of continuous medium and nutrient supply via dedicated chambers. This leads to enhanced vitality and long-term health of the roots under observation throughout the entire observation period. Users will particularly appreciate faster handling and significant time savings in laboratory workflows.

The system’s modularity allows easy adaptation to various types of microscopes and samples, with metal templates in different channel configurations being quickly and easily interchangeable. The system’s construction – consisting of a main body with chambers, plastic and metal templates, and magnetic fixation – also minimizes sample movement during scanning, which significantly increases the quality and reproducibility of the acquired data.

Software-controlled 3D rotator for widefield microscopy cameras

Setting the sample in the proper plane is crucial in many microscopy experiments, but often very challenging in practice. Especially when using bulky widefield cameras, rotating the sample to the desired position is often almost impossible without complex and impractical interventions. Since the sample often cannot be mechanically rotated precisely, we focused on the possibility of moving the camera and thus solved the whole rotation problem from the ground up in a different way.

The result is a dedicated 3D rotator that allows convenient and accurate rotation of the entire camera with minimal intervention to the existing system. The rotation mechanism is connected directly to the C-mount, its robust design makes it suitable for massive cameras with cables, and it can be used in most standard optical setups.

The rotation is fully controlled by the software, which allows intuitive selection of the rotation angle or step rotation in specified steps. The control interface offers buttons for fine stepping as well as the ability to quickly rewind to the desired position by clicking on the virtual scale. With this solution, it is possible to precisely adjust the scanning plane without the need for complicated manipulation of the sample itself or the optical path. The rotator brings greater flexibility and comfort when handling samples, while increasing the reproducibility of results even in long-term or serial measurements.

Our technical solution includes an electromechanical system connected to a C-mount, a control unit, and software. It is a fully integrated unit that was created as a result of our own design, development, and implementation.
