Unique Slider for Enhancing Relief Contrast, called EASY-DIC
With our microscope condenser inserts (sliders), you will have new possibilities for detailed and contrast-rich observation of your specimens using the relief contrast technique. Relief Contrast is a very effective way to increase contrast in light microscopy, applicable to a wide range of transparent and semi-transparent microscopic objects. Relief Contrast will not only help to increase the contrast when observing specimens, but will also help to achieve the plasticity of the object being examined. When observing a specimen, you get many new details not only on its surface. The resulting high-contrast 3D images of the observed specimen will help you observe the finest details in difficult-to-view objects such as tissue slides, bacteria, single non-adherent cells, protozoa, sperm, fibers, diatoms, aquatic organisms, and others.
Fig. 1. – Example of the contrast for Lumicra tunable slider [1]
The sliders use advanced oblique illumination techniques to achieve relief contrast – the illumination from a light microscope source is modified for this purpose by illuminating the specimen from one or more directions at specific angles to the optical axis of the microscope. Our enhanced relief contrast technique achieves very similar results to advanced contrast light microscopy techniques such as Nomarski DIC and Hoffman contrast. Compared to DIC, it is a cost-effective solution, more comfortable and widely applicable – suitable for scientific, student and routine microscopes. Our fully tunable sliders allow you to comfortably and quickly adjust the relief contrast to any objective lens while adjusting the amount of contrast enhancement.
Easy and effective!
The tunable sliders feature a relief contrast mode, and the upcoming version will be designed for dark field observation. This allows you to observe many microscopic specimens at low magnification in three modes of transmitted light - bright field, relief contrast, and directional dark field. You can access these modes one at a time by turning the knob.
Our illumination technique for Illuminating the specimen can reveal structures that are otherwise difficult to see due to differences in refractive index, absorption, or scattering properties.

The gallery shows the results obtained using the tunable sliders. A variety of prepared sample slides (with or without staining) have been used for the images. These slides are mainly intended for phase contrast, DIC and polarizing microscopy. Images were captured using a DM750 microscope equipped with Leica ICC50 or FLEXACAM C1 cameras.
