Configuration of the MAICO solution with microscope
MAICO® is a new generation of confocal microscope that makes confocal fluorescence imaging accessible thanks to its compact size and easy installation on inverted microscopes. This unit does not need additional equipment such as cameras, filters or lasers and is ideal for beginners as well as an addition to high performance microscopes. MAICO® offers a unique modular structure that allows for easy addition of additional channels for different fluorescence bands. It supports single-channel and multi-channel observations with high detector sensitivity and uses a MEMS mirror for fast scanning, reducing phototoxicity and enabling efficient observation of living cells. Its features and compatibility make MAICO® suitable for a wide range of applications in biological research.

Low laser power, high frame rate: the key to success
The MEMS confocal unit, which is part of the MAICO system, is designed to provide everything scientists need to obtain high-quality confocal images. With integrated components for laser excitation, fluorescence detection, pinhole and filtering, this confocal unit enables efficient and accurate imaging of living cells. Utilizing low laser power and fast scanning capability that reaches up to 19 frames per second at full resolution, it minimizes the risk of photobleaching while maintaining high image quality. This technology is supported by GaAsP PMT detectors, which are known for their high sensitivity (QE of 45%), enabling efficient use of low laser power. In addition, Maico can be purchased at a lower cost compared to conventional systems.
Intuitive software and smooth integration for biological research
Hamamatsu understands the needs of biologists and researchers, and therefore selected Inscoper I.S. software for the MAICO system, which is designed for easy and intuitive operation. This software offers a stable environment with a simple interface that allows for quick learning and efficient operation, whether it is a simple time-lapse acquisition or a complex multidimensional acquisition. Users can perform fluorescence excitation and image acquisition either sequentially or simultaneously on up to four channels, allowing integration into a complete workflow with real-time deconvolution.
